Wild Birds, Animals and Private Workshops

Since the spring of 2008 I have hosted private group

workshops to some very cool locations.

We meet in the very early am, and travel to local

destinations that are well known for some great

wild bird photography opportunities.

Below I will keep an updated preview of the newest

program dates, and locations, so anyone can email me to find out

all the details, and decide you they want to participate.

Each workshop will have a different location, fee, and

number of participants, so I really cannot provide more

A Photographers Tour to
America's West Coast with

Conrad Tan and Raymond Barlow

February 2nd - 7th, 2012

6 days and 5 nights photographing the scenic landscapes,

city scapes, and birds of the San Francisco Bay Area.

Day 1 - Arrival day
Day 2 - Landscapes, Birding
Day 3 - Birding, City Scapes
Day 4 - Birding, Landscapes
Day 5 - Departure

Conrad Tan and I have put together a program targeted to the prime

time for weather, and birding life in San Francisco. We will

stay a a nice hotel near Stanford University, a Super 8 that is right

in the middle of all the action! This hotel is about 1/2 hour

drive south of the city.

We have openings for 8 guests in total, occupancy is based

on 2 photographers per room. We will have two 6 passenger vans

rented for the ground travel throughout this tour.

I will pick you up at the airport, and return all guests back in

good time for your flight home.

With 4 full days and evenings of photography and instructions

from 2 very qualified photographers, I am very sure you will

thoroughly enjoy this tour. Conrad is our local tour leader.

Depending on the weather conditions, wind, etc, we will make daily

plans to our various destinations.

Beautiful landscapes by the sea, amazing views of the city, and

some superb birding locations for raptors, ducks, and maybe

some sea animals.

This tour includes all ground travel, accommodations, breakfast at

the hotel, and all park fees.

Lunch and dinners will be in restaurants in the

areas where we are shooting, everyone is responsible

for these meals, and drinks.

We will host a shorter program of only 1.5 hours with the

Canadian Raptor Conservancy's beautiful Female

Snowy Owl.

We will meet at the location south of Simcoe, Ontario at

2:00 PM, to spend one hour preparing for the shoot.

I will do a short seminar to help you learn the techniques needed

to capture brilliant images if this bird. Auto focus settings,

and exposure methods will be discussed.

We will have at least 5 different perch locations prepared

so we can have a good variety of angles, backgrounds,
and environments to work with during this workshop.

A minimum 300mm lens is required.

Tripods and flash are welcome.

Welcome to Africa!!

Arrival to Kilimajaro Airport JRO and transfer to :

Karama Lodge is located just on the outskirts of Arusha. The
property offers log-stilt cabins with en-suite accommodation—
an excellent combination of unique comfort and style.

You will be welcomed by my friend and partner Nas, he and his
wife Donna own NasPhotoSafaris. They prepare the itinerary,
own the safari vehicles, hire our drivers. I am there

March 8th, 2012 - Day 2

Arusha National Park - Karama Lodge

A full day safari here to a home to concentrated numbers of
herd animals like giraffe, elephant and buffalo. It is located
at the foot of Mt Meru and the variation of the terrain provides
excellent views of grassy marshlands,sub-tropical rainforests,
extinct volcanic craters and amazing lakes. A day not to be
missed and is the perfect addition to any itinerary. We return to

Karama Lodge at the end of the day.

March 9th, 2012 - Day 3

Lake Manyara National Park
Ngorongoro Farmhouse

Lake Manyara National Park is situated at the base of the
Great Rift Valley Escarpment, with fresh water filtering down through
the ancient underground waterways of Ngorongoro. This
location is especially good for monkeys, hornbills,
and little bee-eaters.

Ngorongoro Farmhouse is a small and exclusive lodge facing
the Oldeani Volcano, only 5 kilometers from the Ngorongoro
Loduare gate, and was built to offer clients an original experience
reminiscent of the atmosphere of the old days. I found the food
here extraordinary! Beautifully manicured property with a very
relaxing atmosphere. This image below might not be so
relaxing through your viewfinder!!

March 10th, 2012 - Day 4

Serengeti National Park
Nasikia Luxury Mobile Camp

We will be up very early, out the door, and finally the
awesome Serengeti National Park which covers
an area of 14,763 sq km and lies between the shores of Lake
Victoria in the west, Lake Eyasi in the south, the Great Rift
Valleyin the east and the Maasai Mara to the the north.

Nasikia Luxury Mobile Camp is a fully en-suited with
luxurious facilities, it is the ultimate location for
exploration of the wonders of the Serengeti. By remaining a
mobile camp, we are able to offer the jewel in the crown for
African wildlife and is one of the highlights of
East Africa safaris.

March 11th, 2012 - Day 5

Serengeti National Park
Nasikia Luxury Mobile Camp

We are up early once again for another day of game driving
and exploration of the Serengeti national Park. Be prepared
for one excellent shooting opportunity after another! Our
guides are connected to several other safari guides, who
help each other find the best possible shooting locations. We
have great opportunities to go off the main road, and get
right into the best possible position for light and
composition, with spectacular backgrounds.

We return to the Nasikia Luxury Mobile Camp for the evening,
and enjoy a nice cold Serengeti beer, and wonderful food!

March 12th, 2012 - Day 6

Serengeti National Park
Nasikia Luxury Mobile Camp

Yes!! same as the previous day 5, but just as awesome! Please
believe me, you cannot get tired of this place! I took over 14,000
images on the last tour, with so many fired here in the Serengeti.
We are located right in the middle of the wildebeest
migration, at night if you wake up like I do at 3 am, listen,
lions, elephants, hyenas, and so many birds!
How can you sleep when your in Africa! (ear plugs!)

March 13th, 2012 - Day 7

The Crater Highlands
Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge

We leave the Serengeti and head out for some game driving
to connect with the Ngorongoro Crater via the Olduvai Gorge.
The Crater Highlands are located outside the crater on the highland
hills, where Maasai continue to herd their cattle and goats
as they have done for years. Maasai in traditional dress with laden
donkeys can be seen walking alongside zebra and wildebeest.

During the late afternoon, we head along the crater rim to

Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge which is located on the rim of the eastern
side of the Ngorongoro Crater itself. With rooms spread

along each side of a central dining/reception area, the

views across into the vast caldera below are breathtaking.

This lodge is much more than nice!! Be ready for a swim!

March 14th, 2012 - Day 8

Early morning game drive to the amazing Ngorongoro
Conservation Area (including Ngorongoro
Crater) Ngorongoro is collapsed volcano - an incredible natural
amphitheatre, 25 km across and teeming with all of the African
big game. Early morning descent into the crater for spectacular
scenery and game viewing in what has been described
as the eighth wonder of the world. Within it’s perimeters are
thousands of wildebeest, maybe a black rhino!,
also - cheetah, lions, hyenas and other predators.

Tloma Lodge is an exclusive petite 34-cottage lodge situated
within the Ngorongoro Highlands Area. The excellent location
of the lodge on the raised shoulder of a valley, offers breathtaking
views over a coffee plantation and onto the Easternwall of the
magnificent Ngorongoro Crater.

March 15th, 2012 - Day 9

Esilalei Village, School House and Cultural Visit.
The African Tulip

We travel out of the Crater Highlands and head for the
Esilalei village in the wildlife corridor between Tarangire
& Manyara national parks for Maasai lands and life
experience. My partner Nas built and maintains a small school here,
which you can visit if you wish. Sitting down
with these school children is an awesome experience! We photographed
them while they were taking there lessons, singing, and learning
English. We enjoyed a Maasai walk, and had great
fun learning their culture.

The African Tulip is located in a quiet street in the heart of
Arusha, within easy walking distance of the central market
and tourism areas. It is a luxury boutique hotel offering stylish en
-suite rooms and careful client attention.

March 16th, 2012 - Day 10

This is our travel home day, so we can sleep in, and then our guides
take us into a very cool craft market. I went straight to the
area where the villager carve and create these extraordinary
pieces of art, all by hand. I found the prices very reasonable
with a bit of negotiating, and brought home about nine
small carvings ($45.00 US) for our living room table.

From here, we can go back to our room, or go directly to the
airport depending on our flight schedule.

Raymond Barlow Visits Iceland!

Reykjavík-Westman Islands-South Coast

8 days and 7 nights in Beautiful Iceland!

July 3rd - 10th, 2012

Special thanks to my partner in Iceland, Tim Vollmer
for helping me prepare this tour. Tim will also
provide us with all the guides and logistic for our
stay in Iceland.
Day 1

Pick up at Keflavík airport. Overnight at hotel near the airport. (Icelandair hotel in Keflavik)

We will visit Sandgerði time permitting on our arrival day.

Sandgerði is a friendly fishing town on the west coast of the peninsula. In the northern part of the town is Sandgerðistjörn pond, where hundreds of migratory birds gather each spring. You will see large groups of the Arctic tern and Eider-ducks in this area.

Day 2

Reykjanes seashores- Reykjanesviti lighthouse

The lava scarred Reykjanes peninsula lies on one of the world’s major plate boundaries, the Mid Atlantic Ridge, where you can walk across a small footbridge between the two continents. The peninsula is lunar landscaped and pitted with craters, volcanic and geothermal wonders.

Stop at Hafnaberg a low, sheer cliff just south of the fishing hamlet Hafnir. It is an interesting and popular spot among the bird watchers, teeming with such bird species as the guillemots, kittiwakes, fulmars and razorbills.

On we go to Reykjanestá (toe), the south-western point of the Reykjanes Peninsula, the tuff mountain Valahnjúkur where many species of birds nest. There you will also see Reykjanesviti lighthouse, one of many lighthouses on the peninsula.

During the day we might see the following species among others: Harlequin Duck, Great Northern Diver, Horned Grebe, Northern Gannet, Great Cormorant, Kittiwake, Arctic Tern, three species of guillemots and Razorbill.

Drive the new road along the peninsula to overnight in a guesthouse near the ferry harbour where you sail to Vestmannaeyjar.

Day 3

Heimaey Vestmannaeyjar

Drive to the ferry harbor (departure either 10:00 or 13:00. If choosing the 10am departure –very early rise and breakfast) and sail to Heimaey Vestmannaeyjar.

On the arrival day:

A three hour boat tour will take us to the south islands amongst them Súlnasker were the second largest colony of gannets (sula) in Icelandic waters nests. We will literally sail under the island which stands on four posts.

After that we sail to and around Surtsey, an island formed in eruption in 1963. You will sail around the islands, into caves, pass by other small islands/skerries and experience the buzzing birdlife that is in Westman Islands. Who knows, maybe we will see a pod of killer whales swimming by.

Second day: hiking on the island and leave the island 15:30/ 3:30pm.

Vestmannaeyjar/Westman Islands are home to around 4,500 people and eight million puffins (every summer). The islands are a true wonder of nature. Heimaey is surrounded by rocky mountains, a volcano and 14 other small islands which are all in different sizes and shape. The islands were all created by volcanic activity originating on the seabed. The last volcanic eruption took place in January – July, 1973 with overwhelming damage as nearly one-third of the town burned down or was covered under lava.

For bird-watchers, there are many interesting locations to visit in Heimaey such as the west coast to the southern tip. Here, during the breeding season, it is possible to observe nearly all the species of birds that nest in the Vestmannaeyjar cliffs. The main puffin colony is to the south of the island. Passerines and waders also nest in the grassy area between the airport and coastline. If one is fortunate, it is even possible to observe the Manx Shearwater on the sea near their breeding grounds on Ystiklettur and the Storm Petral and Leach´s Petral also breed there but are only out and about during the night.

Hiking up the volcanoes Helgafell and Eldfell (Fire mountain) is quite easy and going down into the crater of Eldfell does not present any difficulties either.

Day 4

Kirkjubæjarklaustur

We leave Heimaey (15:30 - 3:30pm) and drive from the harbour along the coast to a guesthouse in the southeast near Kirkjubæjarklaustur.

We pass the glaciers Eyjafjallajökull, Mýrdalsjökull and others on the south coast and stop at Reynisfjara beach, Reynisdrangar (rocks), Vík village in Mýrdal valley and in Landbrot near Kirkjubæjarklaustur.

The valley of Mýrdalur is a rich birding area with Reynisfjall mountain and Dyrhólaey the chief birding sites. Puffins breed on the cliffs at Víkurhamrar cliffs above the village of Vík and on mount Reynisfjall and it´s an option to hike up there for better view of the birds.

Reynisfjara Beach is a natural black sand and pebble beach with some larger boulders. By the beach you can see basalt caves which are very interesting for photographers. Here is the nesting site of puffins and other seabirds and a great view of Dyrhólaey. This is a very beautiful place, but please be careful, the ocean can be extremely dangerous here.

Reynisdrangar are basalt sea stacks situated very near to Reynisfjara and the village Vík í Mýrdal.

The areas Landbrot and Meðalland south of Kirkjubæjarklaustur support a wide range of birds. The region´s wetlands are varied and include floodmeadows, lakes, springs and lava fields. Breeding birds include Horned Grebes and various ducks. White-fronted Geese are common visitors on spring passage.

Day 5-6

Skaftafell - Jökulsarlón Glacier Lake

Ingólfshöfði (optional)

Vatnajökull glacier towers over this region and has immensely affected the landscape. We will visit many of Vatnajökull's outlets and outwash areas and the Jökulsárlón lagoon, a famous glacial lagoon full of icebergs were we can take a short boat tour and sail among the huge icebergs, an unforgettable experience!

The glacial scenery continues with a visit to the stunning Skaftafell, Iceland’s second largest national park, where the landscape has been formed in thousands of years by different influences of fire and water (volcanic eruptions and glaciers).

Ingólfshöfði is an isolated headland between black sands and the Atlantic Ocean, with thousands of nesting seabirds, especially puffins and the great skua. This historical cape is named after the first settler of Iceland, Ingólfur Arnarson, who spent his first winter in Iceland there in the year 874 AD. You will be driven to the nature reserve on a tractor with hay cart by a local farmer who will also be your guide in the area. The tour will either be early in the morning or in the evening. These are special departures for advanced photographers who need more time to work with their equipment. Duration of tour is 3 hours.

Day 7

Drive back to Reykjavik along the south coast. Stops at Sólheimasandur, Skógafoss, Seljalandsfoss and other places of interest.

Sólheimasandur is a black volcano-sand-coast near Sólheimajökull where you have a spectacular view of the glaciers, the near mountains and the sea.

Seljalandsfoss is a picturesque waterfall. You can walk behind this waterfall and get a different photo angle. Here are bird colonies of fulmars.

Skógafoss is one of the biggest and most beautiful waterfalls in the country and lies under the glacier and volcano Eyjafjallajökull. Due to the amount of spray, the waterfall consistently produces a single or double rainbow which is normally visible on sunny days. According to legend, the first Viking settler in the area, Þrasi Þórólfsson, buried a treasure in a cave behind the waterfall. A local boy found the chest years later, but was only able to grasp the ring on the side of the chest before it disappeared again.

RJb Florida East Coast Tour - January 2012

January 5th - 12th, 2012

My friend and awesome photographer Jack Rogers (Jack's Website)
will help me put together this superb Florida
Tour. Jack has been a world

class wildlife photographer in the Florida area for many

years. His knowledge of birds, locations, migration

and awesome photography skills will prove invaluable

during this one week program.

We will stay in Titusville at the Holiday Inn for 6 nights,

and cover several east coast locations such as Viera Wetlands

and Merritt Island NWR. Jack has several very private

and awesome locations for exclusive birds, and excellent

environments, we will disclose this information on site!

Whats Covered?

Everything! (except your flight!) I will pick you up at

the Orlando International Airport, and take you straight

to Gatorland if you arrive before 2 pm Florida time.

We will spend the afternoon there shooting, then head to the

east coast to our hotel. From there, we will spend the next 6

days traveling to the best locations, working with the light and

birds that are available.

All ground transportation, meals, park fees, guide services,

and accommodations are provided.

Your last evening will be on the 11th of January, 2012, then

the 12th we will take you to the airport

to get you on your way home.

The basic itinerary for each day is to be up and on site

at sunrise, shooting until 10:30 - 11 am., back to the hotel, or a

local restaurant for lunch, a rest - then back shooting each

afternoon until dusk. These will be one days, so lots of

memory card space will be needed!

I need to admit, since starting this business 3 years ago, my

passion for teaching grows with each workshop.

I enjoy helping others make the most of each opportunity, and

providing the best possible information to improve

each persons ability to take superb images, so we can

all go home proud of our efforts.

RJB Great Brown Bears of Alaska Tour June 2012

Some very exciting news, we have finally prepared a tour to
Alaska for some awesome photography of
the Great Brown Bears and more!

Everyone knows how spectacular Alaska is for scenery
and wildlife, but getting close to the amazing Grizzly Bear
for imaging if very obviously interesting!

My on location partner Dave Bachrach, owner of AK Adventures
will help me host this amazing program in the

wilderness of Katmai National Park.

Day 1 - We open the program with a dinner meeting at

the Best Western Inn, Kodiak AK.

(dinner, accommodations, and ground travel
during this trip are included)

I will help everyone with the protocol involved with this

type of tour. Each guest is responsible for flights, and connection to

arrive in Kodiak on or before June 20th, 2012.

Day 2 - Our tour begins June 21st, 2012 early

in the morning with a ride to Near Island.

we board a float plane, travel to our Tour Boat, as we
will make this boat home

for the next 3 nights!!! How awesome is that!

So here we will involve bear photography on shore, then
back to the boat for the evening. There will be extensive
training / orientation, to make very sure everyone is
familiar with the where, when and hows

regarding these awesome creatures.

Day 3 - We will spend the early morning photographing Brown
Bears, and Pacific Puffins. Lunch on the boat, photo
review session,then returning to more Bears
for the afternoon and

early evening, then dinner on the boat!

Day 4 - We will depart from this location in the morning,
and travel to a cool spot for Bald Eagles, and Bears,
a different environment. Late

afternoon, we will fly back to Kodiak via Float plane, and enjoy

another dinner at the Best Western, rest during the evening

for our trip home the following morning.

Day 5 - We will include breakfast, then transport to the airport

for your flight home.

*This is the preferred itinerary, but tides, weather or
animal behavior may cause changes.

All meals as described above are included, all accommodations,

including 2 nights at the Best Western Inn, and 3 nights on

our Tour Boat are included. All ground transportation from

the time you arrive to the time you return home is included.

Camera gear - A variety of lenses... 18 mm up to 500 mm
is recommended. Rain wear that has both a jacket and pants,
hip-boots with rubber soles and plenty of layers of warm clothing.

Physical Requirements

Moderate

This trip does not require a high degree of physical fitness, but travelers must be able to walk 3 miles in shallow water, beach sand, over uneven rough terrain, through mud wearing hip waders (which can be a bit awkward), while carrying your photography equipment. We ask that travelers be of sound health and able to maintain a positive attitude in a remote wilderness setting.

Important Information

This trip involves observing and photographing brown bears also known as “grizzly bears” on foot in unprotected open areas. While bears are unpredictable and sighting them can never be guaranteed, our guides have never missed seeing them. The unpredictability of bears can also lead to dangerous situations. They are wild animals, and we ask photographers to observe the rules set by the guide and other staff and to understand that this trip can, potentially, present harmful situations.

We have a completely new photography adventure for you, taking

place in British Columbia, Canada, on the west coast.

Special thanks to Henrik Nilsson for allowing me to use his
very excellent images!

The home base for this complete tour is

Bella Coola BC. We have reservations for 5 guests
maximum, a rental vehicle, and lodging in a
superb location that is surrounded
by fantastic places for us to explore. All meals
and ground transportation, park fees, boating tour fees included.

Our Tour will involve boating expeditions to see the awesome
Grizzly bears feeding on river Salmon. We do the boat tour
in the morning, and "Walk on the Wild Side" with a
hike in Tweedsmuir park for the afternoon!

We will also visit Eucotte Hot Springs, for White-sided
dolphins, humpback, gray and killer whales are often
spotted on this trip, along with seals, sea lions, eagles and
lots of other interesting marine life.

We will also ride with Ancient Bear Adventures and a member
of the Nuxalk Nation will take us to the end of South Bentinck
Arm to visit the recently raised Pole.
This has not occurred in the area for 100 years.

This trip is a fantastic opportunity! You will be
completely immersed in the rich Nuxalk nation history.

Another wonderful location we will visit... Clayton Falls
is a recreation site in Bella Coola on the shores of the North

Bentinck Arm. The day use only park is a popular sightseeing

destination because of the ocean views, short hiking
trail, picnic sites and the viewpoint over looking Clayton Falls.

More details and a full itinerary will be prepared shortly. We will

do 3 full - 4 hour bear boat tours / drifts, and one - 6 hour Ocean
tour for whales, dolphins, seals, and more.

Everything listed here is weather permitting.

The fee for this 6 day program is $2,750.00 + BC HST per person.
We will need a $750.00 deposit to secure your position.
This deposit is refundable if we find someone to take your
position.

There is a single supplemental of $400.00 if you
prefer a room on your own.

The balance is due 60 days before
you arrive in Bella Coola. The 6 days includes an Arrival day

and partner in Arusha saw it in my eyes on the last day of our visit,
while having another fantastic breakfast.

This virus creates a passion for pure wildlife. There are no fences,
no baiting, or feeding of the animals, our guides are trained
professionals who actually care about this fantastic resource.

Yes, millions of animals, virtually everywhere! The photographic
opportunities are truly endless. We saw 4 different
families of cheetah!

February 4, 2012 Day 1

Arrival -Arusha Coffee Lodge

Day one is a travel / arrival day. We will pick you up at
Kilimanjaro International Airport when your flight
arrives, and transfer you to the Arusha Coffee Lodge.
I will personally be there to greet you, and help you
get comfortable in Tanzania.

Arusha Coffee Lodge lies cradled in the endless acres of
Tanzania’s largest coffee plantation. This exclusive, boutique
hotel lodge has been designed around the farms’ original plantation
homes, radiating the warmth and invitation of the old
colonial plantation homes historically distinctive to the coffee
plantations.

February 5, 2012 - Day 2

Arusha National Park & Arusha
Coffee Lodge

Arusha National Park is home to concentrated numbers of
herd animals like giraffe, elephant and cape buffalo.
We found the monkeys, and birds to be exceptional for
photography in this awesome park. Flamingos, waders, and shrike
are very abundant.

At the end of this day, we return to the superb Arusha Coffee
Lodge for dinner and the evening.

February 6, 2012 - Day 3

Lake Manyara National Park & The
Manor at Ngorongoro

We leave Arusha in the early am, and trek to Lake
Manyara National Park which is situated at the base of the
Great Rift Valley Escarpment, with fresh water filtering down
through the ancient underground waterways of
Ngorongoro. This park is famous for hornbills, and bee-eaters,
along with my favourite bird, the Grey-headed Kingfisher.
This giraffe scene below was captured at Lake Manyara, in fact,
the background is the dried up lake itself.

The Manor at Ngorongoro is reminiscent of an elegant, up
country farm home in the Cape Dutch style of architecture. The
Manor at Ngorongoro, with its 20 luxurious guest cottage
suites, is a luxury safari experience fusing East African safari
hospitality with old world Afro-European architecture, and decor.

February 7, 2012 - Day 4

Serengeti National Park (Ndutu) &
Lake Masek Tented Camp

Up early in the morning, as we leave the Manor at
Ngorongoro, and head for the Serengeti National Park
This world famous location covers an area of 14,763 sq km and
lies between the shores of Lake Victoria in the west, Lake Eyasi
in the south, the Great Rift Valley in the east and the Maasai
Mara to the the north.

Lake Masek Tented Camp situated on the Ngorongoor/Serengeti
immortal borders overlooking Lake Masek. This unique
location is witness to the Wildebeest Migration which
takes place from Dec—Apr each year. The camp is eco-friendly
as all the electric power is supplied by solar panels
and water is collected during the rains.

February 8, 2012 - Day 5

Serengeti National Park (Ndutu) &
Lake Masek Tented Camp

We spend another day on a game drive, with incredible
photography opportunities. Lions, cheetah, leopard, wildebeest, and
zebra are wonderful subjects.

Once we get out, and have the first 2-3 hours of shooting
complete, we have a Serengeti breakfast! Thanks to David Sparks
for the image below.

Our guides keep their eyes open
for a possible caracal, bat-eared fox, hyena, and other
awesome species. Remember, all these animals, and there
are birds everywhere! Kestrel, hawks, buzzards, eagles,
falcons, and many other interesting birds that we do not
see often here in North America.

February 9, 2012 - Day 6

Serengeti National Park (Ndutu) &
Lake Masek Tented Camp
Our last full day on the Serengeti, game driving and exploring
new and excellent viewing areas. The safari land cruisers
have a 120 V system for charging your laptops, and camera
batteries. I was able to run my laptop all day, and
keep my cards transferred to the hard drive, and also
back the files up on a usb external hard drive. By the
time we returned for lunch, I had 10-12 gig
on the laptop, and backed up, cleared the cards, and
ready to go for the afternoon!
We opened all our equipment, and spread it out for
this shot below!

February 10, 2012 - Day 7

Ngorongoro Conservation Area &
Ngorongoro Crater Lodge

Ngorongoro Conservation Area (including Ngorongoro
Crater) Ngorongoro is collapsed volcano - an incredible natural
amphitheatre, 25 km across and teeming with all of the African

scenery and game viewing in what has been described
as the eighth wonder of the world.

Ngorongoro Crater Lodge is dramatically beautiful, and often
referred at the 8th world wonder of the world. Perched at the
edge of the Ngorongoro Crater, Tanzania, this exclusive luxury
lodge enjoys spectacular views of the World Heritage Site in
which it stands. Through large glass windows in the bathroom,
bedroom and lounge area, truly remarkable and memorable views.
All the suites at Crater Lodge have en–suite chandelier–
lit bathrooms where absolute glamour and opulent interiors,
ruby, gold and silver in colour, can be indulged in whilst taking
in this memorable area that is the wildlife rich
Ngorongoro Conservation Area.

February 11, 2012 - Day 8

Crater Highlands & Plantation Lodge

We make a early morning decent into the Ngorongoro Crater,
and enjoy the awesome sites of big game. We were fortunate
enough on our last tour to see the black rhino! Within it’s
perimeters are thousands of wildebeest, many black rhino,
cheetah, lions, hyenas and other predators. Flamingos
inhabit the soda lake in the centre of the crater, and other
bird life is abundant especially around the swamp.

Plantation Lodge rests on the soft, red-brown hills amidst the
vastness and silence of East Africa. The individually furnished
rooms and suites melting harmoniously into the flowering
garden offer comfort and relaxation. Everywhere you look, you
can see and even feel the personal atmosphere of this owner run
lodge with furnishings that were selected with great attention
to detail. Plantation Lodge’s cordial service leaves no wish unfulfilled.

Esilalei Village & Arusha Coffee Lodge
Esilalei is a small village in the wildlife corridor between
Tarangire & Manyara national parks for Maasai lands and life
experience. We built and maintain a small school here, which
you can visit if you wish. You can visit traditional huts, take
part in activities like milking goats, jewellery bead work, spot
animals & birds on a short walking safari, find out about the
medicinal uses of the savannah plants, and learn from an elder
the history and culture of these fascinating people.

From here we trek back to Arusha, to the original location where
we started, the Arusha Coffee Lodge

February 13, 2012 - Day10

Coffee Lodge

This is our last day in Tanzania, we have a nice restful breakfast
at the Coffee lodge and prepare for our flights home. Usually,
the flights to Amsterdam take place in the mid-afternoon, or early
evening. So we have lots of time. We offer a optional tour to a
very cool craft market in Arusha. During my visit to this location,
I spent some time watching the crafters creating these awesome
products, out behind the market buildings. The pricing is
very good with a bit of negotiating, I purchased 9 hand sized items
all real wood, and beautifully finished for $45.00 US.

Our guides will make sure you have all your bags and gear ready
and on your way to the airport in good time.

Some of the safari accommodations are in modern, deluxe
lodges – in harmony with the environment and constructed using
local materials. In the Serengeti, you’ll stay at a mobile tented

During the late afternoon, we head along the crater rim to

Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge which is located on the rim of the eastern
side of the Ngorongoro Crater itself. With rooms spread

along each side of a central dining/reception area, the

views across into the vast caldera below are breathtaking.

This lodge is much more than nice!! Be ready for a swim!

October 17th, 2011 - Day 2

Arusha National Park

A full day safari here to a home to concentrated numbers of
herd animals like giraffe, elephant and buffalo. It is located
at the foot of Mt Meru and the variation of the terrain provides
excellent views of grassy marshlands,sub-tropical rainforest's,
extinct volcanic craters and amazing lakes. A day not to be
missed and is the perfect addition to any itinerary. We return to

Karama Lodge at the end of the day.

October 18th, 2011 - Day 3

Tarangire National Park & Maramboi Luxury Camp

We leave Karama Lodge, and travel to Tarangire and enter for game

driving and exploration . This awesome wildlife park is
located less than two hours drive south-west of Arusha and
is often the ‘forgotten’ park. But during the dry season from
July—November, Tarangi becomes alive even more with
herds of up to 300 elephants scratch the dry river bed for

underground streams, while migratory wildebeest, zebra,

the greatest concentration of wildlife outside the Serengeti
ecosystem - a smorgasbord for predators.

Maramboi Luxury Camp is a unique opportunity to experience

Esilalei Maasai Village & Losirwa Camp

Morning safari to Tarangire National Park then travel to Esilalei to walk

with the Maasai. We visit a very cool village and see the school that my

partner Nas built, and watch the children in class! This is such an awesome

experience! then an overnight stay at Losirwa Camp which is a small property
overlooking Lake Manyara National Park. The camp consists of 20 canvas

tents under thatched roofs, while set up on permanent wooden structures.

October 21st, 2011 - Day 6

Ngorongoro Conservation Area

& Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge

We are up early and on our way to the Ngorongoro Crater. Ngorongoro

is collapsed volcano - an incredible natural amphitheatre, 25 km

across and teeming with all of the African big game. Early

morning descent into the crater for spectacular scenery and

game viewing in what has been described as the

eighth wonder of the world.

During the late afternoon, we head up the crater rim to Ngorongoro

Sopa Lodge which is located on the rim of the eastern
side of the Ngorongoro Crater itself. With rooms spread

along each side of a central dining/reception area, the

views across into the vast caldera below are breathtaking.

This lodge is much more than nice!! Be ready for a swim!

Serengeti National Park

& Nasikia Luxury Mobile Camp

Early morning breakfast at the Sopa Lodge, then we head for the Serengeti.

This awesome park covers an area of 14,763 sq km and lies between

the shores of Lake Victoria in the west, Lake Eyasiin the south, the

Great Rift Valle yin the east and the Maasai Mara to the north. The pinnacle

of the Serengeti immortality is the wildebeest migration. It is beyond

description when the Serengeti plains witness flying hooves and dust as

hundreds of thousands of gnus and zebra, race against the

skyline in their annual migration that covers over 800km.

As the vast herds follow the rains
and fresh grasses in a clockwise direction through the Serengeti, our

camp mimic that pattern of movement. Fully en suited with
luxurious facilities, it is the ultimate location for exploration of

are able to offer the jewel in the crown for African wildlife and is
one of the highlights of East Africa Safaris!

Scenic Flight & KIA Lodge
Travel Day

We will do an early morning game drive and head for the local

airport. We all depart LOB at 10:30 am, and arrive to ARK

at 11:30 am. This is a wonderful chance to see the awesome country

from above! The lodge is situated on a secluded hill in the heart

of beautiful Savannah scenery that is so typical for East Africa.

Once we settle in the KIA Lodge, our tour heads into Urusha, for a

nice lunch and a visit to a cool craft market in the city, I was at this

place in February, the wildlife carvings are superb!, (and very reasonable)

KIA Lodge will shuttle you to Kilimajaro Airport JRO in time

for your flight home. In Feburary, my flight for Amsterdam
left at 8:00 pm, so we have lots of time.

Hummingbirds in Jen's Backyard!

We are working on a new program for this summer involving some

photography of Ruby-throated Hummingbirds, along with several

other songbird species. My friend Jen St. Louis from the Elmira,
Ontario area lives on a farm that has wonderful
gardens that attract hummingbirds.

We are planning 2 dates for now, and possibly more new dates
will be added if we have a good response. We are planning
on 5 full hours of shooting time, with a maximum of 6 guests
for this program. There is lots of room, and several different

places for you to set up. Tripods are great for
this type of shooting, and a flash is

welcome, but really not needed, so long as we have some nice

warm sunlight to work with. This program is weather permitting.

Both of these programs will start mid-afternoon, and finish in the
evening with some wonderful light! Please plan to arrive
at Jens place around 2 pm. We also have some other locations
for you to visit when your on your way to this workshop!!
A covered bridge, and 2 Osprey nests. These locations
are available to established customers upon request.

Our program begins at a hotel just north of the airport in San Jose, where we will get everyone organized on the first arrival day. This hotel is up in the mountains, surrounded by beautiful gardens, and a small pool. All meals are included throughout this itinerary. I have a bunch images edited so far from the December trip, so have a look here if you would like to see them..

The second day we will take a day trip north to the La Paz Waterfall Gardens to photograph toucans, monkeys, hummingbirds, snakes, tree frogs and the gardens / falls if you wish. This tour is designed to provide the nature photographer with some excellent shooting opportunities. Creating this part of the program is my top priority, and providing you with assistance with technique, and post

processing, I will help as much as I can.

Next, on day 3, we head south to a small village in the mountains, Providencia. We spent 4 days and nights here on our last tour, and this place is amazing! We stay at a very small home style b+b, owned by Anna and Enrique, who own and operate a coffee plantation.

So, it goes without saying, the coffee here is nothing short of superb, the finest hospitality, and the nicest people you will ever meet. 3 meals a day and a bed is all we need! We will get into some amazing landscape photography also.. the scenery is spectacular, with a river that rushes through

the entire drive into Providencia.

We had some cool weather on our last tour, so be prepared with a warm sweater! Waterproof shoes, and even some light gloves might be needed, as we are quite high in the mountains. So 4 days and nights at Anna's, and on our last day heading back to San Jose, we stop at a neat place to see

the famous Resplendent Quetzals.

Then, one last night at our San Jose Hotel.

Daisy, Maria and I will spend a month out east at a fantastic bed and breakfast, and host three, one week photography tours. We will pick you up at the St. Johns airport when you arrive, and take you on a tour that you will never forget!! I promise!

Newfoundland is an extraordinary place, the birds, wildlife, scenery are nothing short of exquisite. We are getting organized for a busy season of "Birds in Flight"
coming soon,just south of Simcoe Ontario.

Here are the awesome birds we can expect!

We will arrive in the morning on the shooting date, (9:00 am), take some time to photograph the Bald and Golden eagles that are perched, then move out to the field to set up and fly these birds. Depending on the weather and light, I expect to be shooting before 10 am., with 3 full hours of birds in flight until 1:00pm.

We cannot 100% guarantee all of these birds will fly, as
we all know, anything can happen between now
and our shooting date.

James has the Bald Eagle flying now, and we do expect
the Steppe Golden Cross, and the Golden Eagle to fly!

To get started in the morning, we will have a meeting for some
coaching at 9 am, then shooting begins at 10 am and
continues to 1 pm. Guests are welcome to stay at the center
until the center closes at 5 pm.

Note.. the February 4th, 2012 is an afternoon shoot, starting at 1 pm.

We will visit the wolves, adult cougar, adult lynx, bobcat,
and gray fox. Also, maybe a visit with Luna, the
Telus saw-whet owl!!

Coming this Oct 30th, 2011 and November 5th, 2011
we have a 4 hour workshop
with some very special birds. The program starts at
11 am, and finishes at 3:00 pm, so you are welcome
to arrive as early as 8:30 am., and stay

until the park closes.The photography
begins at 1:00 pm sharp!

We will spend 2 hours preparing for the session with instruction and
perch preparations, then 2 hours creating some
spectacular images and set ups.

I have added the extra hour before of instruction before we start
shooting to do a special program on creative photography.
The 2 hours preceeding the actual
photography part of the program
will involve a detailed explanation of how we create dynamic
and interesting images of birds.

The birds that we hope to have ready:

Barred Owl
Broad-winged hawk
Screech Owls
Kestrel (male)
Barn Owl
Merlin Falcon
Juvenile Bald Eagle
Red-tailed Hawk
Great Horned Owl

We cannot guarantee any specific species, we never know who will be ready for a photograph!! Our plan is to create natural settings for these birds perched on logs, rocks, stumps, etc. A 300 mm lens minimum is required. Tripods and flash's are welcome.

My wife Daisy and I are working together to produce a very cool
photography tour and workshop in the Great American West, Wyoming.
We will concentrate our plans at Yellowstone, and the Grand Teton
National Park. After spending I week at these
locations in September 2010,

Our pick up and drop off location is West Yellowstone
Airport, just outside the Yellowstone National Park.. A very
nice hotel here will be
our home base for the entire tour.

Our program includes a 7 night stay, all ground
travel with a full sized SUV equipped to handle
all 4 photographers is included.

The itinerary is easy... animals, birds, and landscapes. We will
visit all the prime locations, and gather some good information
as we go along. Also, I have several friends who live very close
to the park, and have offered to supply
some excellent locations and information. We usually shoot
from 6 am - 6 pm each day!

Once we have our group established, we will sit down and
plan priorities. Eachphotographer will have the chance to
target the species / location they would be interested in., except me.,
I am just going along for the ride. My fun is helping
others become better photographers.

I intend to work with everyone, spending time helping our guests
understand all issues and interests in photography., from equipment,
to post processing, and art... my job is to teach.

We will also host a regular session for photo editing at the hotel,
when time and energy permits!! The cool thing about
this trip is that 5 like minded people
will have some extraordinary photography opportunities, and we
will make sure everyone in the group has had their "fill" of a shot,

before we trek onto new locations.

The complete fee for this program is $2,200.00 Canadian
Funds. Each guestwill be required to make a deposit
of $500.00 to secure their position on this trip.
